I recently did a post about how to start a blog. What about those of you who are on the fence about starting a blog? I collected a few reasons as to why it is a good idea to begin your blogging journey. Some of these are pretty obvious, but some are things that you might not really consider. So, if you are looking for some inspiration to finally take the plunge, you have come to the right place!
Having a blog can help you identify your skills
As I recently mentioned, there is definitely a certain set of skills when it comes to having a blog. Not only are you writing content, but your images and overall design are also a huge part of your blog. Getting your blog together can prove to yourself what you are able to do. It is also an incredible way to expand your skill set too! There are so many things that I have done while working with my blog that I never knew I was going to be able to do. I think it is important that we keep learning, and we keep working. As you have probably heard, the world is changing, and we need to be keeping up with it! If you are interested in what skills I think you need for your blog, then check that post out here! There are a ton of different aspects of blogging, and those all require different skills.
It is a great way to build confidence too!
I used to really suffer from confidence issues. Starting my blog was a pretty scary thing from me. Mainly because I was so nervous as to what people would think of me. Eventually, I just quit caring. Not only do I love what I do, but it has become something that I am proud of. As my blog has evolved over time, I keep finding more reasons to be proud of it. Although it may not be as professional as some other bloggers, making yourself happy is really all that matters! There is something that is really satisfying about watching a project that you have worked on for a while come to fruition. Also, everyone likes to be good at something!
It feels really great to have your blog available to the public, and feels even better when you get compliments on it. I used to be afraid for people to read my blog. It took me a while to realize that whatever I publish on my blog, is something that I am proud of. It is nice to see my returning visitors rise every month. That means I must be doing something right, I think! So, if you are worried about your friends and family thinking it is lame, ignore them. Seriously!
Connect with other bloggers
One of the best things that has came from blogging is the group of friends I have made. It is pretty amazing to be able to sit and talk about my blog with people who actually understand it. Not only has it made some great friendships, but it has also helped me so much on a professional level. If there is something that I do not understand, then it is nice to be able to ask my friends if they have experience with something. It also is an incredible source of motivation. There is nothing like seeing other women succeed. Not only do I love celebrating others, but I also kind of feed off of that kind of motivation.
I love Facebook groups that allow me to connect with fellow peers, as well as solve issues. Some of them even allow you to post links to your blog to help drive traffic to your little part of the internet! I think it is also a great idea to reach out to the people in your area. Where I live, a group of us get together once a month. Not only is it a great way to stay focused and motivated, but it is also a great way to learn about other people, and to enhance your skills! Plus, who doesn’t like a great lunch?
Something I never saw coming…
To be honest, my blog was totally a side hobby. I knew that bloggers were making money from their blogs, having amazing opportunities, and creating a great life for themselves. Although this is not what I do as a full time job, it definitely has been pretty amazing so far. Not only are you able to work with brands you love, but sometimes you can even go on trips with them. Plus, you can put your blog on your resume, and it is basically a living portfolio that you can show to potential employers. My career would have never happened without starting my blog, and it has been incredibly rewarding.
Making it in the blogging world definitely takes time. It is not something that is going to come overnight, and to be honest, your return on investment might suck at the beginning. Just like anything, if you stick with it, good things are more than likely to come. There are a ton of articles online about how your blog can show some great professional skills to potential employers too!
