6 Ways to Create a Standout About Me Page for Your Blog
Creating an about me page should probably be your first big idea when you start your blog. For me, I really wish that I could say I had my about me page ready to go when I launched my blog, but I didn’t. Since I’m not in the habit of lying, I’ll tell you that I didn’t have mine ready until pretty recently. My about me page came from months of self realization, understand what needs to be in mine, and opening up to who I was as a blogger. When I set out on creating my about me page, I wrote down seven items that I knew had to be in my about me page, and I wanted to share those with you!
1. Know who your audience is, seriously.
I’m not saying that you need to know them by name, but you need to know who they are. If you are not already using Google Analytics, then you are missing out on some valuable demographic information. This can help you know how old your audience is, and where they live. Further than that, you can also identify the interests of your audience. For me, I know that my audience is of a similar age to me, and primarily located in the United States. As far as their interests, it is primarily beauty, but still has an interest in lifestyle pieces as well. If you are writing for an audience that is completely opposite of what your blog is about, it may be time to think about what you are doing.
2. Show them why you are valuable
I’m not saying that you are not valuable, FYI! Everyone is valuable in their own way. With the over saturation that exists in the blogging world, you need to set yourself apart. Use your about me page to tell your readers what you are good at, and what they can learn from you. Are you amazing at graphic design? Let them know! Do you have a PhD in finance (props to you, omg!), then give them some amazing financial advice. Whatever your expertise is, share that with your audience. Anyone can talk about the newest highlighter on the market, so find a way to make that highlighter seem as important as a Chanel bag. After all, you do want your readers to keep returning, right?Just in case your reader is new to your page, let them know what your blog is about. As a blogger, I love hearing about how someone decided to create their blog. Nothing is more exciting than hearing about the birth of creativity. Like I previously mentioned, this is a great place to show how valuable your blog is, and what your readers can expect from you.
3. Make sure you are adding photos to your about me page!
This page is all about you, so make sure you are showing yourself off! I added a photo of myself so that the reader can not only know who I am on the blog, but can also maybe identify me on my other social media platforms. It is always nice to put a face to a name. I also added images that are typical of my shooting style for my photographs that I featured on the blog, and social media as well. Inserting images into your copy makes it visually more appealing, and will keep the reader interested so they can find out all about you!
4. Don’t be afraid to get personal
I mean, this is an about me page after all! After you get your pitch out to your perspective readers, it’s time they they know more about you. Let them know your background, tell them about your pets! I know that everyone in my real life is sick of hearing about my dog, but there is the whole internet left to tell about him! Sharing details about you is going to make friends, in addition to creating an audience for yourself. Plus, you might even have something in common that you guys get to bond over! Authenticity is going to take you far in this business, so you might as well start practicing that now.
5. Add your social media information!
Social media pretty much makes the world go round right now. While I’m not a huge fan of living through our phones, we cannot get around it. With blogging comes the need for sharing our social media accounts. I have mine on numerous places throughout my blog because building that community is important! On your about me page, you definitely need to have a way for your readers to follow you, contact you, or whatever they want. I’ve found some of my favorite bloggers by their killer about me pages, but had to spend a while finding their social media accounts.
6. You have to have a call-to-action
By now, we all know that a call-to-action is not only incredible for engagement, but can have amazing results if done correctly. Whenever I make a social media post for myself or work, I try to always include a call-to-action. In your about me page, you can add whatever you like. I added one for my potential readers to sign up to my email list. One of the biggest keys to making this work for you is to make it easy for your users to complete that call-to-action. Set a goal that you want to focus on, and do whatever it takes to make that happen.
