Falling in love with Stockholm

I recently had the chance to travel somewhere that has been on my list….well…forever. Not only did it fully live up to my arctic dreams, but it was so much better than I imagined. From the amazing hotel, the gorgeous views, and the friendly people, this won’t be my last trip there.

Traveling to Stockholm

If you have ever flown out of the Atlanta airport, then you can expect what I will say next. Check to see if there is any upgrade to your flight. Delta is usually great about letting you know if there are upgrades. We unfortunately did not have any, but eight hours is worth the upgrade. Hanging out in the airport is nice, but does anyone love an International flight? Probably not. On the other hand, the Schiphol airport in Amsterdam is the bees knees. Not only is there a ton of shopping, but it just has a much more relaxed vibe compared to most of the airports I have flown into.

After hopping back onto our KLM flight bound for Stockholm, I was honestly so excited I couldn’t sleep. KLM actually flies to Europe through Atlanta. KLM is pretty much the same airline, seriously. Having flown with a bunch of different airlines over the years, their set up was great. The food was actually good, the in-flight entertainment was great, and their comfort seats actually had extra room! Living up to my dreams, the snowfall was more than I could have imagined. After hailing a taxi, we were on our into the city. It was about 30 minutes, so if you are thinking of flying into Arlanda, then make sure you schedule for that. We paid 545 SEK, or 66 USD. Considering that I have paid that in NYC, I think that is fair.

Hotel Diplomat Stockholm

This is an amazing home, and if you are planning on going, stay here! Not only are the views incredible, but the hotel itself is gorgeous. It was commissioned by King Oscar II back in the early 1900s. By the 1960s, it was changed into a four star luxury hotel. Our room had windows that opened, and a small balcony to enjoy your view. As far as European hotels go, this is by far the best one I have stayed in. Oh! If you were a fan of Lizzie McGuire, then you know about her movie. Remember the elevator at the hotel in Rome? They have one just like it. *This is what dreams are made of*

In addition to the actual accommodations being great, the rest of the hotel was great as well. We enjoyed breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea, and cocktails all that the restaurant located within the hotel itself. Not only was the food actually some of the best we had while we were in Stockholm, the entire staff was lovely. Plus, we did not have got go out in the freezing cold! There is also a great little shop also attached to the hotel which features pastries and cafe related options.

Sweden actually has the best weather

If you didn’t know, I REALLY love snow. The more the merrier! So in addition to being completely astounded by the snow at the airport, it honestly got better. I’m not going to lie to you, I had on about four layers. I am still shocked that I was able to walk. The snow was unlike anything I have ever seen, and my happiness pretty much kept me warm! Even though it was snowing, and was cold, it was not intolerable. We were still able to walk pretty much everywhere we went, and most importantly, I haven’t gotten sick yet, score!

Stockholm looks incredible! It is also on my list, but hasn’t been one of the top countries I want to visit, but maybe that needs to change. I agree with you, the Amsterdam airport is amazing. It seems like every time I fly to Europe I have a connection through there.
