Let’s be honest here…hotels are important! Your hotel acts like a home away from home when you are traveling. While you want to spend money on experiences, you need somewhere to lay your head at night! I have perfected finding hotels that are great quality, but also fit easily into the budget that I set for trips. Want to know more? Keep reading!
How to find the perfect hotel!
After I have picked my perfect vacation destination, now it’s time to book a hotel deal! Traveling with my family in tow makes finding a hotel deal essential. I start with a prowl thru the Booking.com website listings for my city of choice ( . I’m looking for the hotels rated “very good” to “wonderful” with an “excellent location” filter.
Then it’s time to dig in and read the reviews. Your fellow travelers are leaving valuable clues to a perfect stay! Take the time to learn from them. After I have picked out a couple hotels that I’m really in to then I hit the trip advisor website and even pull up the hotel websites to check out the different room types and hotel photos.
Don’t forget to try your destination search in Trivago.com for additional options and some comparison pricing for the best booking deals. Last but not least, check out the hotels website. Sometimes early bird specials are available that include breakfast or upgrades are available.
Let’s get to booking!
Now it’s time to book!!! I love Booking.com. Free cancellation and no deposits are music to this frugal travelers heart. Book early (we are talking months in advance and not weeks). You can always cancel in case you find a better deal (even on Booking.com itself.)
Plus you are guaranteed to have a place to sleep! If you are set in your dates are ready to pay in full, you can generally save a couple of hundred dollars by paying for your hotel in advance. Just make sure you are committed to going because those deals are nonrefundable….now the important part….don’t forget to check back for better rates and room upgrades periodically until your departure dates! Expedia.com and the hotel’s official website are my next go-to options after Booking.com
Location, Location, Location!
I’m a firm believer in location, location, location! Either being in the heart of my destination or close to convenient public transportation is a must for this traveler. I want to spend my time enjoying my destination not driving an hour to reach it every day! Look at a map of your city and see where you plan to spend most of your time. Then, look for hotels using Booking.comor Expedia.com in that area.
How to choose the perfect hotel…I have found that choosing the “perfect hotel” depends on my budget and what I’m hoping to experience. I tend to choose smaller local hotels to really experience the culture. Not only are they typically budget friendly, they offer helpful travel advice, genuine service and friendly smiles. If I’m wanting a more cosmopolitan experience, I may pay more for a room and book a luxury hotel. I can always find ways to trim the budget elsewhere.
