Healthy habits to form and how to keep them!

We are all pretty guilty of having some habits that may not be so healthy. It is pretty difficult to find the motivation to form healthy habits when you are in a rut. Although we usually focus on these at the beginning of the year, we can choose to improve our lives at any time. Forming habits is not just about improving our health. We can improve our career, lifestyle, and many of the skills that we hold so close. While most of these are not revolutionary, they are simple things that we can put into our lives that will make a big difference.

Forming healthy habits starts with you!

I know that most of us think our habits are a direct reflection of what we do outside of our house, but what we do when no one is looking is far more important. The most important habit is to really focus on your sleeping habits. Not only is your body going to thank you for those eight hours of sleep, but your mind is going to be much more clear. In addition to getting the full hours of sleep you need, waking up early is going to be a habit that you will thank yourself for. Not only are you going to get so much more done which is great for productivity, but it is going to give you more time in the day for what you want to get done! This leads us into the importance of a morning routine!

Why is a morning routine important?

Forgetting things happens to the best of us. If we create and stick with a morning routine, it helps us maintain consistency, which is vital!  We all know that we need to make our bed every morning. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. How can we so easily forget these? Since my work is online, checking my email is part of my routine. Meditation, a great shower, journal entries, and a filling breakfast are all my favorite ways to start my day. Plus, sometimes a routine can actually help us to get in a more positive rhythm for our life. A routine allows you to get a certain amount of work done each day, and can help with your productivity!

Healthy habits are formed from the inside out

How can we ever be our best selves if we are having some interior turmoil? There are certain things that we have to accept or let go of before we can really improve our quality of life. Negative relationships can really drain us as people, and it can also be transferred to those around us as well. Letting go of what causes us stress is a surefire way to have a healthier mind. Jealousy is similar to negative relationships, but this is one with ourself. Social media has had an impact on the way we view ourselves, and that is something we have to work on individually. Caring for yourself is always essential to a healthier lifestyle in general.

Do not forget about the physical aspects though…

Having a healthy mind is incredible, but having a healthy body is just as important. Trust me, you do not need to be having a drink everyday, and you can totally have a bottle of water instead of that Red Bull. It is amazingly easy to alleviate our stress by simply moving around as well. Working out releases endorphins which are going to make you a happier person, and that is a healthy habit to have! If you are new to working out, try and do 10,000 steps per day, or you can simply walk around for fifteen minutes. I know, you probably think you do not have the time, but everyone has time for self care. Find out more about self care in one of my recent posts! Having a better diet and a better level of hydration will also improve your sleep cycle! We have come full circle!

What about healthy habits in our career?

Those are important too! Setting goals is one of the most important habits we can have. This helps us look into the future instead of constantly looking towards the past. Keeping a journal is one of my favorite habits that I have done forever, and I can tell a difference from when I do not journal. This allows me to clear my mind up, get some ideas out into the world, and helps me share my feelings so they are not bottled up. If you work from home, then we know sometimes we have to turn off. Set times for work and play. After a certain hour, turn off your work mind, and be sure to be present in your every day life. Creating tech free time is a healthy habit to have.

Socializing can actually be a healthy habit, I know, shocking.

Getting out of the house and meeting new people can be scary. It is important to be able to socialize with others. This helps us grow our working knowledge of different industries, and we can learn more about ourselves in the process. I am not telling you to get on Instagram, I am telling you to physically get out! Go join a fun workout class, take your furry friend on a walk, or just go have some retail therapy. Nature is a great place to refresh!

  • I totally agree that socializing is such an important part of leading a healthy life — why bother otherwise. For me my go-to tip is focus on drinking more water, moving throughout the day and eating “whole foods” aka ones that you can pronounce all the ingredients

  • It is so true to have a routine. it makes mornings/days so much easier! working out for sure should be part of your routine especially if you are sitting all day!

    • I have noticed such a difference in my entire day since I have incorporated my morning routine into my daily life. I have always had a skincare routine, but never one to get my day going! Getting up and moving around is for sure something I do not do enough of, but I am going to be making moves (no pun intended!) to incorporate that! Thanks for your comment!
