One of my new year’s resolutions definitely was to get in shape. Not only is it going to improve my overall mental health, but it will give my physical health the boost that it needs. I honestly hate the idea of a diet. Anyway that I can focus on my health without calling it a diet is a win for me! Let’s talk about how I am working on my fitness, and not stressing out about it!
Diet is a scary word!
I really am not a fan of a diet. You can eat and drink whatever you want, and you should not limit yourself anyway! The key to any good “diet” is moderation. Most of us are guilty of eating when we are bored, and that is something I do way too often. What I used to think of when I heard the word diet was incredibly thin men and women who were not getting enough nutrients. While diets have progressed over time, and they are actually yummy, filling, and healthy, we do not always think that.
What I have done is actually trick my mind into not thinking I am on a diet. Now, let me explain before you get confused. I am watching my calorie intake to lose weight. If this is something that you are not focused on, then save this post for a rainy day. My focusing on the nutritional quality of food that I am choosing to eat, it has actually made it fun. If you are like me, then you like to learn constantly. You would be surprised by how much you can learn about foods you eat everyday. Items that you think are healthy, may not be healthy. Don’t worry, if there is something you love, you can still have that. Just maybe have one serving, and be aware of how much that is.
My new best friend…
If this was up to my mind, I probably would be eating a bag of chips instead of writing this post. The way that I am beating this is by using an app. Not only am I on my phone constantly for my job, but I also have a strange addiction to phone games. Knowing that I would need some assistance on this journey, I found a new app. The MyFitnessPal app has been a lifesaver the past few days. It is completely easy to use, and allows you to set a goal for the weight you want to gain or lose. Think of it like a game, and that makes it even more fun!
This helps me track exactly what I am eating for every single meal. I can also track my water and exercise as well. The water feature is great because I am notorious for not drinking enough water. By “not enough” I really mean none at all! I found a cup in my cupboard that is 30 ounces, and my goal is to drink 3 of those a day. Ice water is what I prefer to drink, and I think I enjoy it better that way, but you can do you! The best feature about this? It has an option where you can scan the package of what you are eating, and it will give you the exact data right there! You can also find HelloFresh recipes there if you are a food subscription box user!
Speaking of subscription boxes..
I used to think that using a meal subscription service was kind of cheating. After using HelloFresh, I have completely changed my mind. Not only are the meals actually delicious and filling, the recipes are easy! Cooking has never been something that comes easy for me, but with the help of HelloFresh, I have actually learned how to cook! After I prepare all of the meals I order per week, I can buy groceries, and actually cook real meals. While it is just me right now, this is going to be so helpful for the future. You can choose between meals including meat, or a vegetarian option depending on your diet. You can also choose from meals for two, or meals for a whole family.
Another huge reason I love these service is because they provide all of the calorie information for each meal, and considering that I am on a “not diet, diet”, this is something that is important to me. Portion control is really important when you are trying to lose weight, but you definitely do not want to be starving yourself. You have to stay healthy at all times, and that is getting the nutrients that you need for your body.
