Honestly, when I hear the phrase “Improve Your Life“, I picture gyms, vegetables, water, pretty much anything having to deal with working out. Why does improving your life focus around our fitness? While physical health is beyond important, mental health is important too. Even when I was in the best shape of my life, I was still mentally under stimulated, unhappy, and generally stressed out. So, there are some really easy ways to make your life better, and guess what, none of them involve getting a gym membership, or giving up that glass of wine and pizza during Bachelor In Paradise. I have a few things that I love as a way to improve my life, and they are all still fun, story keep reading!
You know how your parents said go outside? They were right.
Get outside! I talked about this in my recent post, it is really easy to get caught up in our life at home, get stuck on the couch, or just have no energy. I am not telling you to go hike a trail, ride a bike, or do anything. Go walk your dog (they need it too!), go have a picnic with your best friends, go have brunch outside. Getting outside can improve your life through happiness, but it can also have a great impact on your life.Vitamin D is great for our bodies, and it is something that we need. The sun has an unlimited supply, so enjoy your unlimited mimosas with unlimited Vitamin D. Everyone will be happy!
I get by with a little help from my friends.
Hanging out with your friends is the best way to get into a good mood. I do not get to hangout with my friends too often since everyone has a different schedule, but even a phone call works. While I cannot necessarily move to city I love as a way to improve my life, I can stay connected. I have friends all over the country, and I make sure to talk to all of them. Even if it is once a month, those five minutes to hear about their life, and to catch them up on yours is important. When I recently went to San Francisco, I had dinner with my best friends, and we laughed the entire time, which is the most I have laughed in months. It makes such a huge difference, and it costs you nothing (minus your phone plan!)
Surround yourself with things you love.
Okay, I have a confession. Home decor is my kryptonite. I have absolutely no room in my apartment, yet I keep finding things I have to have, and somehow, I have room. I love having a home that reflects me. Why? Because being surrounded by things that you love can really boost your positivity.
I can look over and see a photo I purchased in Japan that reminds me of an amazing trip, I look the other way and see a pencil holder that my friends purchased after a few too many margaritas in Mexico for me. You can improve your life through travel, so why not improve your life through decorating? As I have said, living alone is amazing because everything is yours. If not, decorate your room, or ask your roommates if it is okay to buy some decor pieces for your common areas. They might go with you, which is always fun!
…Leaves is back at Bath and Body Works. That is all.
On the same subject, scents! This is my favorite time of year because we have amazing fall candles going on, but then we get into the winter scents which is just on another level of enjoyment. Aromatherapy is actually real, and different scents do have an impact on our life. While I cannot stand the smell of lavender, it is amazing for relaxation, citrus scents are great for boosting our energy, and bergamot is great for depression or anxiety (plus, it smells incredible!). If you are not into candles, then they have essential oil diffusers which do the same thing, but with less risk when it comes to fire, if that is more up your street. Plus, improving your life means improving the way your environment smells….right?
Writing is popular for a reason!
I spend most of my daily life writing, scheduling social media posts, and taking photos. This is going to actually cover two different parts, ….ready for it? Unplugging is difficult, I know. Technology has been taking over our lives, and it impacts our relationships as well. Choosing a time to put your phone away is great for your mind. Make it during dinner, after 8pm, until you get to work, whatever you choose. Alternately, writing is so great for the mind. I have evolved this blog into more of a lifestyle “let’s talk about whatever I want to talk about” style, which is different than my previous blog which focused mostly on beauty. This helps me get my feelings out, allows me to talk about things that are a concern to me, and just stuff I like (which in turn makes me happy!)
