I am an absolute fangirl for anything that Tatcha makes. While the skincare has been incredible for my skin, I wasn’t sure about what the makeup side of the brand would do. The Tatcha Silk Canvas Protective Primer caught my eye for various reasons. The biggest draw was the unique formulation, and the next biggest was my apparent need for a primer as of late. So, with a huge price tag attached, is it worth it?
Tatcha Silk Canvas Protective Primer
This is by no means an inexpensive primer. It is going to cost you $52.00 for about .7 ounces. Before you click out, hold on! The amount of product you get is really insane. I just don’t know how you could run out of this product anytime soon. The product itself comes with a coin like spatula too. This has a small indentation on it that shows you just how much you need to apply. The coin is amazing! It honestly is the exact amount I needed for my entire face. If I had used any more product, my experience with this my have been different. The Tatcha The Silk Canvas Protective Primer claims to be skin-protecting, as well as makeup-perfecting.
The texture is pretty unique as well. It is a solid that transforms into a cream. It does have a slight pink hue to it, but I have not had any issues with that showing up, or altering the color of the rest of my makeup. In addition to creating a great base for the rest of your makeup goodies, it helps to minimize the appearance of pores, reduce breakouts, and even out the tone of your skin. I’ve also found that this makes my skin a lot brighter as well! Bonus! It is incredibly smooth upon application, and did not weight my skin down, and I seriously did not even notice it on at all.
What makes the Tatcha Silk Canvas Protective Primer different?
Like the rest of the Tatcha line, it has their amazing combination of ingredients. These are the green tea, algae, and rice which help to keep your skin looking and feeling amazing. The Tatcha The Silk Canvas Protective Primer was actually designed after a Geisha’s last beauty step, and I’ve been to Kyoto and seen them. If I could look that incredible, I would! For reference, I’m going to mention my skin type. I have breakout prone skin, like no other! While I wouldn’t call my skin oily, I would say that it has spots that get more oily through the day. I also have some dry spots that pop up from time to time. There are also silk fibers in this primer which make it feel luxurious too!

Tatcha is a cruelty-free brand which makes it even better. There is also a small part of our purchase that goes toward funding education for girls too! So while this may not be the cheapest option in term of primers, I highly recommend it. My makeup applied beautifully over top of it too! I did not notice any changes in the color of my foundation, and had no texture issues to report. My foundation and the rest of my face makeup stayed on until I washed my face at the end of the night. Since there is what seems to be a huge amount of product versus the intended daily amount, the price definitely seems to be worth it.
