Smashbox Holidaze Contour + Spotlight Palette

Smashbox Holidaze Contour + Spotlight Palette

I’m not going to lie to you, I couldn’t tell you the last time I willingly bought a Smashbox product. This has nothing to do with the brand, or even the products. I typically just don’t find their products that interesting. As I was browsing the holiday sets on Sephora lately, I came across the Smashbox Holidaze Contour + Spotlight Palette, and was immediately drawn to it!

This palette comes with nine different shades for contouring, spotlighting, and highlighting. I thought for a $39 retail value that it was kind of a no brainer, honestly. Another thing that really attracted me to this product was the insane packaging! As you can imagine with the name being Holidaze, it kind of has a psychedelic appearance, which is unique to what most brands are putting out right now. The Smashbox Holidaze Contour + Spotlight Palette also has an enormous mirror that is the size of the palette. For me, that is an amazing bonus!

An overview

This palette has six different highlighting/spotlighting shades. One thing that kind of irritates me is that this is marketed more as a contour palette, but only offers one shade that can really be used for contour. It also features a warm bronzing shade, and a brightening under eye powder. Usually when I think of something being a contour palette, I would expect some sort of shade that could be used as a blush. I think the addition of that could have really rounded the palette out. Another issue that may arise is the lack of diversity in the color range. For someone who is very fair, it works great for me. If you have a deeper complexion, I could see you running into issues with this showing up. That is something to think about before purchasing.

The powders are actually incredibly pigmented! I don’t think I was expecting the pigmentation that actually came off of these at all. It also is really blendable which has been one of my favorite things about this palette. The contour and bronzer shades are just a little bit too dark, but after I blend them, they are basically perfect! The overall palette is decently warm toned, but the contour is quite cool, thankfully!

Final Thoughts

If you know my obsession for the ABH x Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit, then you need to pay attention right now! These powder highlighters are the closest that I have come to finding a dupe! I can get an amazing glow on the skin without having to cake on the powder. The white highlighter on the bottom row actually has a duochrome of a greenish-blue which really surprised me. If you are looking for a gift for a makeup lover, I think this is a great option. Also, if you are just obsessed with highlighter like me, then this is great!
